Thoughts on peace

I have been thinking about peace and the meaning of this word that brings such a pleasant feeling to my mind. Hornby’s dictionary suggests: “freedom from war”; another book mentions “relationship between people who are not in conflict with each other”.

How can war and peace coexist when one annuls the other? This is exactly the difficulty we face; and it makes me think of that  politician on TV the other day: he said  he prays for peace while sending soldiers to war.

This attitude seems so unacceptable because if we want peace, then we don’t support war. Or do we?

Where does peace start? Do we go out there and make order between people or nations and then sit back and relax?

Or could we start somewhere else? And where would that be?

How valuable is peace to us and how much does it cost us personally?

I like to ask these questions because if we want peace we have to confront ourselves with our personal relationship to peace. Do we look at peace out there in the world or do we consider peace within ourselves?

I firmly believe peace starts within. Have you noticed that the world is a better place for us when we are peaceful in our hearts, our thoughts, our actions? How trustworthy are we, anyway, if we are at war with our feelings yet take part in peace rallies? Honestly, I am not impressed with that sort of attitude because it clashes with natural law. It is this contradiction though that gives us so much struggle in the present times of political uncertainties.

We all want to be safe, have enough to eat and know that our loved ones are taken care of. Who gives us that security? Do we expect others to provide it? And why do we feel like that?

I challenge us all to consider the options and to take on our responsabilities as human beings and citizens of our respective countries. It is not enough to count on others for peace! Let’s do it from our hearts, for our freedom, for the wellbeing of our families, for the safety of us all. Only we can free our minds of conflictive thinking. Just imagine how strong we can be when we all do it together!  We do not need political gatherings then to promote peace, we will simply radiate it and beam with this light of love. Yes, love! When we put aside our desires for violence, the wish for revenge and the lust to destruct, we can love freely. Love and light, isn’t that what our world needs now?

I do not believe that others have to make the first step. I ask myself and I ask you to take that step now and keep the work up, everyday, always, all the time, again and again. If we don’t promote peace, who will? We cannot afford to wait, but you and I can  reduce our natural destructive attitudes for the benefit of everybody.

True freedom and true love come from within. Can we try and make sure others can see it shine from our hearts so the world can see that we all share peace?
