This year is ending and we are not all looking back to when it started. Why is that so? Do we prefer to go on and find out what is in store for later? If that is the case: would then forward thinking be a better option than thinking backwards? And where does this tendency to look ahead come from? Both the past and the future are necessary for our balance and wellbeing. We can think about them comfortably from our standpoint in the present.
As we reflect on past events and future potential ones, we stand still at the threshold of 2010. What will it hold for us and our loved ones? Impatient curiosity gets the better of us: we ask questions, we want to know, we consult with others, and we hope quite obviously that somebody will give us the solutions to our never ending doubts.
Are we losing track of ourselves?
We are our own best tool. It is absolutely matchless, unique and within reach. Let’s use it. Let’s use it regularly and with trust. We can answer most of our questions without outside help. Yes we can. We can rely on our intuition. Our heart does not lie to us. We know how to listen to it and we can follow its guidance. Our insight is precious and never fails.
I do believe it is worthwhile to consider selected past events and try to understand their relevance. Why do they seem outstanding to us now as 2009 is finishing? How do we analyse these landmarks? The answer to this question will depend on our observation of people, of happenings and of our own attitudes. Are we judging actions by others and /or ourselves or are we looking at specific situations with compassion and a loving approach? Maybe we remember other people’s comments or judgements. Have others tried to make up our mind? Maybe we have let that happen. It happens! However, we love to integrate our own thoughts and we love to be independent. We can do that, too. Nobody is perfect and that is such a comfort and one of the most widespread truths.
I love reminding myself of a few events that have significantly shaped my world during the year. It helps me to close the door and ending some chapters of my life. Have you noticed that we go through some pages of a book faster than through others? That is fair enough and there is nothing wrong with it. Turn your mind now to the other pages, the consequential ones. We build experience with these pages. Nobody can educate us with that kind of learning, not even the best teachers. We need time for this experience because it is vital. We may need a lot of time and we can find that time. It’s our time! You know, it is very restful to spend some time alone. Let us forget about the others for a while, even when they are around us. We are not selfish when we do this; we are looking into ourselves and we are in need of private time. I believe this is part of personal hygiene, like having a bath, a dream or a sleep.
Rejoice in the good family times, social times and personal times. Enjoy quiet moments, enjoy yourself!
Celebrate all the achievements in your life, no matter how small or how complex; and love your so called mishaps, the failures and the awkward moments that you won’t have to repeat later. Live peacefully, demonstrate stillness and love to others in your gestures, your kind words, your powerful actions.
I wish you all a beautiful Christmas and an amazing 2010. May we meet and look out for so many more new opportunities of creation, life and work!
As a photo, I want to share THE THINKER with you ( by Auguste Rodin, Musee Rodin, Paris)

The story I have chosen for this Letter is more like a poem, by His Holiness the XIVth Dalai Lama:
A good heart is both important and effective in daily life.
If in a small family, even without children, where the members have a warm heart for each other, a peaceful atmosphere will be created.
However, if one of the persons feels angry, immediately the atmosphere in the house becomes
tense.
Despite good food or a nice television set, you will lose peace and calm.
Thus things depend more on the mind than on matter.
Matter is important, we must have it, we must use it properly, but in this century we must combine a good brain with a good heart.
In love and light
